Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday named former Punjab Chief Minister and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh as his favourite politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during an “Ask Me Anything” session on Instagram. Gandhi said he shares a good rapport with Singh and praised his knowledge of military history. The interaction took place through Instagram’s question-and-answer feature, which allows users to submit questions that can be answered through stories or videos. During the session, Gandhi was asked to identify his favourite politician from the BJP, to which he responded by naming Captain Amarinder Singh.
“Captain Amarinder Singh, definitely. I get along with him. He’s cool,” Gandhi said in a video shared by the Congress party on X. The Congress leader’s response highlighted his personal equation with Singh despite their political differences. Gandhi further explained that one of the reasons he admires Singh is his expertise in military history. He referred to Singh’s extensive knowledge of defence-related matters and historical military affairs while discussing why he respects the former Punjab leader.
Ending his response in a light-hearted manner, Gandhi addressed Singh by saying, “Hello, Uncle Amarinder.” The remark reflected the informal tone of the social media interaction, which focused on personal views and lesser-discussed aspects of political relationships. Captain Amarinder Singh served as the Chief Minister of Punjab and was a prominent leader of the Congress before leaving the party in 2021. He later formed the Punjab Lok Congress and eventually joined the BJP. His political career has included a strong focus on issues related to national security, defence and governance.

Rahul Gandhi’s comments come at a time when political leaders across parties often maintain personal relationships despite differences on policy and ideology. Such interactions occasionally highlight the informal connections that exist between leaders outside public political debates. The Congress leader has frequently used social media platforms to engage directly with citizens, discuss issues and share personal perspectives. His latest Instagram interaction covered a range of questions, including political preferences and personal opinions.
Gandhi’s remarks about Amarinder Singh also drew attention because Singh has been a political rival of the Congress after his exit from the party. However, Gandhi’s comments focused on Singh’s personality and expertise rather than political differences. The exchange showcased a different side of political interactions, where leaders acknowledge individual qualities of their opponents or former colleagues. While the two leaders belong to different political camps today, Gandhi’s comments reflected his appreciation for Singh’s knowledge and experience, particularly in the field of military history.
