Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra embarked on a remarkable trek through the dense Karulai forests in Kerala’s Malappuram district to connect with the Cholanaykkar tribal community. During her visit to her Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, which began on September 11, 2025, she listened intently to the community’s grievances and assured them of her unwavering support. The visit, prompted by a request from C Vinod, a PhD scholar in Tribal Economy and a member of the community, underscores her commitment to addressing the challenges faced by marginalized groups.
Guided by Vinod, who had previously shared the tribe’s struggles during her election campaign, Priyanka engaged directly with Cholanaykkar representatives. She brought them to the Forest Department’s Inspection Bungalow for detailed discussions on critical demands, including better housing and infrastructure like bridges. In meetings with forest officials and community leaders, she explored actionable solutions to improve the tribe’s living conditions, ensuring their voices were heard at the administrative level.
Beyond her engagement with the Cholanaykkars, Priyanka met with individuals working closely with tribal communities to gain deeper insights into their needs. Later, she visited the Nilambur teak depot, where she toured the museum and inquired about its operations, showcasing her interest in the region’s cultural and economic facets. Earlier that day, she inspected ongoing development work at Nilambur Railway Station, discussing renovations, the Vaniyambalam Railway flyover, and other railway-related requirements to boost connectivity in Wayanad.

In a post on X, Priyanka shared a video highlighting her visit to the proposed Padinjarathara–Poozhithodu road site at Kottiyamvayal, accompanied by the District Collector, District Forest Officer, and PWD Executive Engineers. She noted, “This new road would make a big difference by providing an alternate route for the Thamarassery ghat road, improving Wayanad’s connectivity.” Her hands-on approach has sparked hope among locals, who see her efforts as a catalyst for transformative change in the region’s infrastructure and tribal welfare.
