Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor took oath as the MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur Assembly constituency at the Bihar Legislative Assembly on Monday. Kishor took the oath in the presence of Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, formally beginning his tenure as an elected legislator. His entry into the Assembly follows a significant victory in the Bankipur bypoll.
Kishor made his electoral debut on August 3 by winning the by-election from the prestigious Bankipur constituency. His victory marked a major setback for the BJP, which had held the seat since 1995. The result also provided a significant electoral boost to the Jan Suraaj Party, which is seeking to establish itself as a political force in Bihar.
Kishor secured 64,151 votes in the bypoll and defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar by a margin of 19,324 votes. Kumar received 44,827 votes, according to the election results. The decisive margin gave Kishor a strong start to his political career as an elected representative.

The Bankipur bypoll was necessitated after BJP leader Nitin Nabin vacated the constituency following his election to the Rajya Sabha. The seat had been a long-standing BJP stronghold, making Kishor’s victory particularly significant. His win also added importance to the political contest surrounding one of Patna’s prominent Assembly constituencies.
The oath-taking ceremony marks a new phase in Kishor’s political journey, moving from electoral strategy and political campaigning to direct participation in legislative proceedings. As Bankipur MLA, he will now represent the constituency in the Bihar Assembly and take part in debates and discussions on issues concerning the state and its people.
Kishor’s victory and subsequent oath-taking have also strengthened the political profile of the Jan Suraaj Party in Bihar. His performance in Bankipur will be closely watched as the party seeks to expand its electoral presence. The new MLA will now begin his legislative responsibilities following his formal induction into the Assembly.
