Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday issued a strong warning against illegal infiltrators while promising to fast-track citizenship for eligible refugees under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), as he addressed a public rally in Katwa ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Speaking at the rally, Modi said that individuals staying illegally in the country would have to “pack their bags", signalling a tough stance on infiltration. At the same time, he sought to reassure refugee communities, particularly the Matua and Namasudra groups, that a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state would ensure quicker implementation of citizenship provisions under the CAA.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the CAA was designed to provide legal recognition and rights to persecuted minorities who had taken refuge in India. Addressing members of the Matua and Namasudra communities, he stated that their presence in the country was protected by the Constitution and that the law would help secure their future. He added that delays in implementation would be addressed if the BJP came to power in West Bengal.
Modi also targeted the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, accusing it of corruption and governance failures. He announced that the BJP would present a White Paper detailing alleged irregularities and misuse of power under the leadership of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, positioning it as a key campaign issue in the elections.

The rally in Katwa was part of a series of campaign events addressed by the Prime Minister across poll-bound West Bengal, including Jangipur and Murshidabad. With only days left before voting, political campaigning has intensified, with parties focusing on key voter groups and contentious issues such as citizenship, identity, and governance.
The CAA continues to remain a polarising topic in the state’s political discourse, especially among refugee communities and minority groups. As campaigning reaches its final phase, the BJP’s push on citizenship and infiltration is expected to remain central to its strategy, while opposition parties continue to challenge the narrative and raise concerns over its implications.
