Pune is rapidly emerging as a leading hub for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India, with more than 130 centres currently operational in the city, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis noted on Friday. He reaffirmed the state government’s focus on making Pune a preferred destination for global business investments while speaking at the inauguration of Magnum Ice Cream Company’s Global Business Solutions Centre.
Fadnavis highlighted Maharashtra’s position as a preferred investment destination for GCCs, attributing the growing interest from multinational companies to Pune’s business-friendly environment and skilled talent pool. He noted that collaboration between the government and industry can accelerate investment, create jobs and support wider economic growth, with the state committed to providing an enabling environment for businesses.
The newly inaugurated Magnum centre is expected to create more than 1,000 direct employment opportunities while also supporting indirect job creation. The facility will use artificial intelligence, automation, logistics and other advanced technologies to support the company’s global operations, including manufacturing, distribution and customer experience functions.

The Pune centre will operate alongside Magnum’s regional headquarters in Mumbai and is expected to support the company’s expansion in Maharashtra. The state government is also working to strengthen physical infrastructure across Pune’s industrial areas, with particular attention to addressing IT infrastructure challenges in Hinjawadi to make the region more attractive for GCC investments.
Industry department principal secretary Dr P. Anbalagan noted that GCCs have evolved beyond conventional office operations and are becoming important contributors to economic growth. Pune recorded about 6 million square feet of commercial office space demand from GCCs over the past 15 months, while 130 new or expanded GCC units were established across Maharashtra during the last 18 months.
The state has set a target of hosting 400 GCC companies and more than 700 units in the coming period. Pune currently has companies from more than 30 countries operating across 20 sectors and employing nearly 10,000 professionals. Magnum’s leadership also highlighted Maharashtra’s industrial ecosystem, connectivity and administrative support as key factors behind its decision to establish the global business centre in Pune.
