At the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the pivotal role of startups and innovators in driving India’s technological ascent, crediting their presentations on advancements in 6G, semiconductors, and financial fraud prevention for the event’s success. He highlighted the New Telecom Act, which replaces two outdated laws, as a transformative step toward facilitating innovation rather than merely regulating it. Modi declared that complex regulations are a thing of the past, positioning India as an investor-friendly destination and the ideal time to “invest, innovate, and Make in India.”
Modi emphasized India’s collaborative ecosystem, where industry, startups, academia, and government converge to build a robust technological foundation. He noted that India’s status as the world’s fastest-growing developer population is being harnessed through supportive policies, fostering an environment where innovation thrives. The IMC’s broad focus, extending beyond mobile and telecom, exemplifies this collaborative spirit, showcasing India’s potential as a global tech platform driven by both startups and established industry players.
Reflecting on India’s telecom journey, Modi contrasted the struggles of the 2G era with today’s near-universal 5G coverage across districts, aligning this digital transformation with the ‘Viksit Bharat’ and self-reliance vision. India’s emergence as one of five nations with indigenous telecom technology was marked by the launch of a “made in India 4G stack” alongside 1 lakh 4G towers. This export-ready 4G stack is poised to support the ambitious Bharat 6G vision, while mobile manufacturing has spurred lakhs of jobs, reinforcing economic growth.
