Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao was arrested by police in Hyderabad on Tuesday after he attempted to travel to Nalgonda district to meet BJP leader Nagam Varshit Reddy, whose residence was allegedly attacked by Congress workers. Police had placed Rao under house arrest earlier in the day to prevent him from leaving the city.

Police personnel were deployed outside Rao’s residence in Tarnaka from the morning. When the BJP state president came out and attempted to board a vehicle for Nalgonda, police detained him and shifted him to Gandhi Nagar Police Station. The action came amid political tensions following an alleged clash between Congress and BJP workers in Nalgonda.

Rao said on social media that he wanted to visit Varshit Reddy and extend his solidarity after the alleged attack on the BJP leader’s residence. He accused the Congress government of using the police to prevent him from meeting party workers. The BJP has alleged that Varshit Reddy’s family members, including his mother, were physically assaulted during the incident on Monday evening.

Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy condemned Rao’s arrest and described it as an attack on democracy. He also referred to it as the second house arrest involving the BJP within a week and accused the Congress government of attempting to suppress the Opposition. The BJP has demanded that Rao be released immediately.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar also criticised the police action. He questioned why action had allegedly not been taken against those accused of attacking BJP workers and leaders while Rao was detained after attempting to visit them. Kumar accused the Congress government of using the police to silence Opposition voices and questioned its handling of law and order.

The developments have added to political tensions between the Congress government and the BJP in Telangana. The BJP has demanded action over the alleged attack in Nalgonda, while the detention of its state president has become another point of confrontation between the two parties. Further developments are expected as both sides continue to raise the issue publicly.
