Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar announced his party's full support for the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) vice-presidential nominee, CP Radhakrishnan, on Monday. The announcement reinforces the unity of the NDA coalition as it prepares for the vice-presidential election.
In a statement shared on X, Kumar praised the nomination of Radhakrishnan, the current Governor of Maharashtra, saying, “The decision to nominate C P Radhakrishnan ji as the NDA's candidate for Vice President is a positive step. JD(U) extends its complete support to him, and we wish him the very best in this endeavor.” Kumar’s endorsement highlights the coalition's cohesive strategy as it rallies behind Radhakrishnan, a seasoned Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Tamil Nadu.
Radhakrishnan, who hails from an influential Other Backward Classes (OBC) community and has deep roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), was named the NDA’s candidate on Sunday. The decision followed a high-level meeting of the BJP’s parliamentary board, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with input from key NDA allies. Radhakrishnan’s political career spans decades, including two terms as a Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore and significant contributions to Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. His administrative experience as the Governor of Jharkhand and, later, Maharashtra, adds weight to his candidacy.

With JD(U)’s backing, Radhakrishnan’s campaign gains further momentum, signaling a unified front within the alliance.
