Tensions flared ahead of the civic polls in Nagpur as BJP Candidate Bhushan Shingne was injured in a violent scuffle late Thursday night. The incident occurred when Shingne went to the Gorewada area after receiving information about anti-social elements allegedly trying to disrupt the election process. Party officials claimed that money was being distributed illegally to influence voters. Shingne, who represents ward no. 11 of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, was reportedly attacked by a large group of people. The confrontation left him with injuries, prompting immediate attention from authorities.
According to Dayashankar Tiwari, the BJP City Chief, Shingne had gone to the area to ensure the safety and fairness of the polling process. However, he was confronted by a group exceeding 100 individuals, who allegedly assaulted him without provocation. Police were quickly notified and reached the spot to control the situation. Shingne was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, though his injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The attack has raised concerns about election-related violence in the city.
Police confirmed that a case has been registered against one identified suspect, while efforts are underway to identify the others involved in the attack. Authorities have begun examining CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the events leading up to the assault. Investigators are also interviewing witnesses and local residents to gather additional details. The police assured that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible. Meanwhile, election authorities stressed the importance of maintaining peace during the voting process.

Voting for elections to 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, including Nagpur, was underway on Thursday.
