Polling is in full swing across Maharashtra’s 29 municipal corporations on Thursday, with voters turning out in large numbers to decide local governance for the next term. According to the State Election Commission, a total of 3.48 crore voters are eligible to cast their ballots to choose from 15,908 candidates contesting 2,869 seats across 893 wards. To accommodate this massive exercise, 39,092 polling centres have been set up across the state, ensuring smooth conduct of the elections.
As expected, several Bollywood celebrities were among the earliest to cast their votes, drawing attention from media and social media alike. Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, and Sanya Malhotra were among the first voters, sharing pictures of their inked fingers to encourage public participation. Veteran actors Nana Patekar and Hema Malini were also spotted at polling booths, with Malini looking visibly happy after exercising her franchise.
Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, accompanied by his wife Anjali and daughter Sara, voted at a booth in Bandra West. Tendulkar, speaking to the media, emphasized the importance of civic participation, saying, “This is a very important election. It gives us a chance to express our opinion through votes. Everyone should come out and cast votes.”

The BMC elections are being closely watched not only for their political significance but also for the trends they may indicate ahead of future state and national elections. With civic issues like infrastructure, sanitation, traffic management, and public safety at the forefront, the outcome will have a direct impact on the daily lives of Mumbai residents. Voters are urged to exercise their right responsibly and participate in shaping the city’s governance for the years to come.
