Union Minister of State and Tamil Nadu BJP leader L. Murugan sharply rebuked Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay, urging the actor-politician to learn about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) before criticizing it. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, Murugan praised the RSS as a century-old organization dedicated to selfless service, citing its swift response during natural disasters like the 2004 Tsunami, Tamil Nadu floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Murugan highlighted the RSS’s work in education and sanitation for tribal communities and Scheduled Castes, emphasizing its role as a first responder in crises. “Vijay should correct himself. Learn from the RSS, then criticize if needed,” he said, defending the organization’s independence and its contributions to society. He dismissed Vijay’s allegations of the RSS guiding the BJP-AIADMK alliance, questioning, “What’s wrong if such an organization advises a party?”
The remarks come in response to Vijay’s speech at TVK’s second state conference in Madurai on August 21, where he accused the BJP of forming a “fascist” alliance with the AIADMK and indirectly labeled the latter as servile and corrupt. Vijay alleged the BJP relies on the RSS to prop up its minority government at the Centre, vowing that TVK’s alliance would remain independent and self-respecting, backed by “people’s power.” He predicted a direct contest between TVK and DMK in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, promising coalition partners a share in governance.

Murugan’s defense aligns with the RSS’s reported outreach in Tamil Nadu, where it operates over 2,000 shakhas and supports initiatives like Vidya Bharati schools, serving marginalized communities. Vijay’s critique, however, resonates with his voter base, wary of the BJP’s growing influence. The exchange underscores rising political tensions ahead of the 2026 polls, with TVK positioning itself as a secular alternative.
