Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil has sparked a major political controversy after claiming that a dismissed police officer assaulted him during the violent clashes in Perambra on October 10. Addressing reporters on Thursday in Kozhikode, the Congress MP alleged that the officer, identified as Abhilash David, currently serves as the inspector of the Vadakara Control Room despite having been officially removed from service according to the government’s own records.
Shafi said the incident raised serious questions about transparency and accountability within the Kerala Police. “The government had claimed that Abhilash was removed from service, and this was widely reported by the media. But when we inquired, we found he is still serving in Vadakara,” he stated. The MP added that his Right to Information (RTI) request to verify the dismissal list yielded no results, suggesting that “either the government misled the public or reinstated the officer with ulterior motives.”
Recalling the October 10 protest, Shafi alleged that the officer deliberately targeted him during the chaos. “He beat me on the head and face. Even when I turned away, he followed to attack me,” Shafi claimed. He further alleged that the officer maintains close ties with the ruling CPM and is a frequent visitor to the party’s Vanchiyoor area committee office.

The Congress leader went on to claim the existence of an organised faction within the state police comprising “tainted officers” allegedly loyal to the CPM. According to him, this internal cell operates with the purpose of promoting the party’s political agenda under the guise of law enforcement.
The allegations have triggered political tremors across Kerala, with the Opposition demanding an immediate investigation. Both the state police and government officials have yet to issue a detailed response to the MP’s serious charges.
