Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Friday raised serious concerns over frequent power cuts and inadequate electricity supply across the state amid an intense heatwave, urging the government to take immediate corrective action to ease public hardship.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, Mayawati said that in a highly populated state like Uttar Pradesh, complaints of unscheduled outages and poor power supply have become widespread during the ongoing extreme summer conditions. She noted that the situation has worsened due to rising temperatures and increased electricity demand, leaving households struggling to cope with daily disruptions.
She said that the impact of irregular electricity supply is being felt across all sections of society, including the poor, middle class, farmers, small traders, and working populations. According to her, the combination of extreme heat and repeated power cuts has made everyday life increasingly difficult, with residents expressing frustration and dissatisfaction in several regions of the state.

Mayawati also highlighted that both rural and urban areas are facing prolonged and unplanned outages, which have triggered widespread concern and media attention. She urged the Government of Uttar Pradesh led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to prioritise uninterrupted electricity supply, especially during peak summer months when demand is at its highest.
Calling for both immediate relief and long-term reforms, the BSP leader stressed the need to strengthen the state’s power infrastructure. She suggested the establishment of new power plants and expansion of generation capacity to ensure that such crises do not recur in future summers. She added that reliable electricity supply is essential for public welfare and economic stability across the state.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh continues to face severe heatwave conditions, with temperatures soaring across multiple districts and Banda in the Bundelkhand region recording some of the highest readings. Authorities have issued heat alerts and launched public awareness campaigns urging residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, and avoid exposure to extreme sunlight during peak hours.
