Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she may participate in the Cockroach Janata Party-sponsored protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10. She clarified that a final decision on her participation would be taken later.
Banerjee made the remarks at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata before travelling to Delhi to join ongoing protests by opposition parties. She criticised the BJP and the Election Commission over alleged irregularities linked to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal.
The proposed CJP demonstration is centred on demands for action against the Chief Election Commissioner and changes in the functioning of the electoral system. The organisation, along with several student and youth groups, has announced plans for a joint mobilisation at Jantar Mantar, with the issue of voter-list revisions forming a major part of its campaign.

Banerjee has previously expressed support for the CJP-led protests and said she believes political leaders should stand with people raising concerns over electoral issues. She also defended opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over the police action during recent demonstrations in Delhi.
The Trinamool Congress leader said she intended to raise concerns over the treatment of opposition leaders with President Droupadi Murmu. She indicated that she would seek wider political support on the issue, arguing that concerns surrounding democratic processes should not be limited to any single political party.
Meanwhile, preparations for the October 10 mobilisation have intensified in Delhi, with the CJP and student organisations informing police about their proposed programme. The protest comes amid continuing political disagreements over the electoral-roll revision process and demands for the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
