West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday strongly refuted reports claiming she personally received enumeration forms for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader described the reports, including those published by her party’s own mouthpiece ‘Jago Bangla,’ as “completely false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt at spreading misinformation.”
In a statement posted on Facebook, Banerjee clarified that a Booth Level Officer (BLO) had visited the premises of her residence in Kolkata as part of routine electoral duties but insisted she had not personally accepted any forms. “A BLO had come to our area yesterday in discharge of his electoral duties. He came to the office at my residence, enquired about the number of voters in the premises and handed over forms,” she wrote. “A section of the media has reported that I came out of my residence and accepted the enumeration forms personally. This information is completely false and misleading,” Banerjee added.
The claims surfaced after several media publications and digital platforms reported that Banerjee, who has been a vocal critic of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) SIR process, received her enumeration forms in person. The reports suggested that she had interacted directly with officials, a version the Chief Minister has now categorically denied.

Banerjee has been opposing the SIR exercise in West Bengal, accusing the Election Commission of conducting it in a biased and irregular manner. The exercise, currently being undertaken across several states, aims to update and verify voter lists by collecting and matching residents’ details. The Trinamool Congress has alleged that the process is being “politically weaponized” to manipulate voter rolls ahead of upcoming elections.
Reaffirming her protest against the exercise, the Chief Minister stated she would refrain from submitting her forms until every citizen in the state completes the process. “I have not and will not fill up any form until all citizens have completed theirs,” her post read. The controversy has sparked renewed political debate in Bengal, with opposition parties accusing Banerjee of attempting to politicize a routine administrative process, while TMC leaders maintain that her concerns stem from irregularities in the revision procedure.
