In a fresh political face-off, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood has accused AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia of indulging in extravagant mobile phone purchases during their tenure in power, claiming they bought multiple high-end smartphones far exceeding official spending limits.
Sood alleged that Kejriwal, while serving as Delhi's chief minister from 2015 to 2022, purchased four premium iPhones worth several lakhs, despite a government-mandated cap of ₹50,000. Sisodia, he claimed, followed suit, buying five luxury smartphones—including three iPhones—between 2017 and 2022.
“These were not just one-time purchases. Expensive phones were repeatedly bought, and approvals were taken afterward to justify the overspending,” Sood charged.

The allegations come shortly after the Delhi government's General Administration Department raised the official mobile reimbursement limits for ministers, sparking criticism from the Aam Aadmi Party itself. Under the revised policy, the chief minister can now purchase a phone worth up to ₹1.5 lakh, while other ministers are allowed handsets priced up to ₹1.25 lakh.
Sood’s remarks have intensified the row, especially as AAP leaders had earlier mocked the BJP-led Delhi government over the hike in mobile reimbursement limits.
While the BJP accuses AAP of hypocrisy and misuse of public funds, AAP’s Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj shot back sarcastically, saying that though the BJP government failed to deliver on promises, “at least the ministers got their benefits.”
The controversy adds to the mounting political tension in the capital, as both parties trade barbs over transparency, governance, and public accountability.
