Amitabh Bachchan has dismissed rumours that he is planning to retire from acting or television, clarifying that a phrase in his previous blog post had been misunderstood. The veteran actor explained that his reference to it being “time to retire” was intended to mean retiring for the night and going to bed, rather than stepping away from his professional commitments.

The speculation surfaced after Bachchan wrote in an earlier blog post that it was late and “time to retire.” The remark was interpreted by some as a possible indication that he was considering retirement from the entertainment industry. Responding to the reports, the actor criticised the way his words had been interpreted and questioned the media’s handling of the statement.

Sharing a newspaper clipping about the retirement reports, Bachchan explained that the phrase was used in its ordinary sense of ending the day. He wrote that “retire to bed” was what he meant and appeared to express amusement and frustration over the reports that followed. His clarification made it clear that the statement was not an announcement about ending his acting or hosting career.

In another part of his latest blog, Bachchan firmly stated that he was not retiring from work anytime soon. He explained in Hindi that, in English, “retire” could mean going to sleep, adding a humorous remark that those speculating about his retirement were not invited to join him in bed. The response was aimed at putting an end to the rumours while retaining his characteristic wit.

Bachchan is currently hosting the 18th season of the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He has been associated with the programme since it began in 2000, although Shah Rukh Khan hosted one season in 2007 while Bachchan was away from the show. His continued presence on television remains an important part of his professional work.

On the film front, Bachchan was last seen in the 2024 film Vettaiyan alongside Rajinikanth. He also served as the narrator for Farhan Akhtar’s 120 Bahadur. His upcoming projects include Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2, in which he will reprise his role as the immortal warrior Ashwatthama, alongside Prabhas and Kamal Haasan.
