On the 171st birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a stern warning against “vested interests” attempting to sow division in society through communalism. In a Facebook post on September 7, 2025, Vijayan cautioned that forces promoting caste over humanity are gaining traction, even in Kerala, a state historically known for overcoming superstitious beliefs and caste-based practices.
Vijayan hailed Guru, a revered 20th-century saint and social reformer, as a beacon of unity and enlightenment who championed equality across caste and creed. “Sree Narayana Guru was a great reformer who always opposed communalism,” the Chief Minister stated, emphasizing Guru’s teachings to unite people for the betterment of humanity. He accused certain groups of attempting to appropriate Guru’s legacy to serve divisive agendas, undermining the reformer’s vision of a cohesive society.
The Left leader highlighted Guru’s role in challenging upper-caste dominance and social evils, including caste-based atrocities and economic exploitation. Vijayan stressed that Guru’s message remains vital in countering contemporary efforts to fracture Kerala’s social fabric through communal propaganda. “His words and actions were not limited to any one religion or caste—they were for all mankind,” he added.

In a post on X, Vijayan reiterated Guru’s enduring influence, stating, “His vision of humanity as one continues to inspire Kerala’s renaissance and guide us against divisive forces.” The Chief Minister urged citizens to draw strength from Guru’s teachings to resist communalism and uphold the state’s legacy of social reform.
As Kerala faces rising concerns over divisive narratives, Vijayan’s remarks underscore the importance of unity and knowledge in preserving the state’s progressive ethos. The commemoration of Sree Narayana Guru’s birth anniversary serves as a rallying call to counter communal forces and reaffirm the values of equality and solidarity that have long defined Kerala’s social renaissance.
