Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has hit out at the Himachal Pradesh government after receiving an electricity bill of ₹1 lakh for her home in Manali—a property she says has been lying vacant.
Speaking at a recent political event in Mandi, the newly elected Mandi MP expressed her frustration over the steep bill and questioned how such a large amount could be charged for a home she doesn’t even occupy.
“Iss mahine mere Manali ka ghar ka ₹1 lakh bijli ka bill aaya, jaha main rehti bhi nahi hoon. Itni durdasha ki hui hai (This month I received an electricity bill of Rs. 1 lakh for my house in Manali, where I don't even live. It is such a miserable condition),” Kangana said in a widely shared video from the event. “Hum padhte hai aur sharmindagi hoti hai ke yeh kya ho raha hai.”
The actor further called upon citizens to hold the state accountable, linking the issue to broader governance concerns. “Yeh hum sabka hie dayitva hai, ke hame iss desh ko, iss pradesh ko, unnati ke raaste par chalana hai,” she said, adding, “Main toh kahungi yeh bhediya hie hai, aur hame hamare pradesh ko inki chungul se nikalna hai This is an obligation for all of us, that we have to take this country, this state, on the path of progress. I would say that these are wolves, and we have to free our state from their claws).”
Kangana's remarks come amid her increasing political engagement in Himachal Pradesh. She has been actively participating in rallies and public events since joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and contesting from Mandi.
On the professional front, Kangana’s last release was ‘Emergency’, a biopic on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi set during the 1975–77 Emergency period. Despite being a passion project—written, directed, and produced by her—the film received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
