A political storm erupted in Jharkhand today, after a 19-second video of Krish Ansari, son of Health Minister and Congress leader Irfan Ansari, surfaced on social media, showing him purportedly inspecting a ward at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. The clip, set to a Punjabi song, depicts the 19-year-old engineering student from Uttarakhand, home on vacation, asking patients about their comfort while accompanied by aides.
The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the visit, with spokesperson Ajay Sah posting on X, “The son of Jharkhand’s Reel Minister has also started inspecting government hospitals and making reels.” Minister Irfan Ansari defended his son, clarifying that Krish was at RIMS to assist his teacher’s ailing mother with hospital admission and medication. “This is a humane act. He did not shout at the management or take their seat. You should appreciate his act,” Ansari told reporters, adding that he questioned his son about the visit, which sparked the controversy.
In a Hindi post on X, Ansari urged the BJP to adopt “positive thinking” and refrain from targeting his family. “If you have a fight with us, fight with us. Do not involve family or children. I have given my children good values. They will help humanity and ensure people’s treatment,” he wrote. The incident has intensified political tensions, with the BJP framing the visit as a publicity stunt, while Ansari insists it was a compassionate gesture.
