Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp critique of the Narendra Modi-led government on Monday, accusing it of producing little more than "economic distress, joblessness, soaring prices, and falsehoods" during its tenure. In a pointed attack, Gandhi argued that the Centre’s policies have failed to deliver on promises of prosperity, instead burdening the nation with widespread economic challenges.
In a Hindi post shared on Facebook, the former Congress president outlined his vision for revitalizing India’s economy. "The only things manufactured in abundance under Modi’s rule are economic collapse, unemployment, inflation, and lies," he wrote. Gandhi urged the government to roll back "unfair" taxes, dismantle monopolistic practices, improve access to banking services, and empower talented individuals to drive growth. "Only then can we lay the foundation for a thriving economy, job creation, and a stronger India," he added.
The Congress party has consistently targeted the Modi administration over its economic stewardship, highlighting issues such as escalating costs of living, dwindling private sector investment, and stagnant wage growth, which they say have disproportionately affected ordinary citizens. Just last week, the party emphasized the need to address declining consumption and rising inequality, advocating for a policy shift from favoring corporate elites to uplifting grassroots communities, starting with boosting rural incomes.
Gandhi’s remarks come amid growing public discontent over economic conditions, amplifying the opposition’s narrative as it seeks to challenge the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of future electoral battles.
