DMK leader M.K. Stalin on Saturday extended Independence Day greetings to the people and urged citizens to work collectively towards building a nation based on equality, fraternity, progress and humanity. In a message posted on X, Stalin called for India to reject regressive tendencies and outdated practices while preserving its pluralistic character and strengthening national unity.

Stalin emphasised the importance of ensuring that India’s future remains inclusive and focused on fulfilling the aspirations of millions of citizens. He expressed hope that the country would move towards a brighter future by drawing on knowledge, energy and a shared commitment to constitutional values. His message placed particular emphasis on social equality and collective responsibility in the country’s continued development.

The DMK leader also urged citizens to uphold pluralism and unity while moving away from practices he described as regressive and archaic. He argued that India’s progress should be guided by values that promote equality, fraternity and humanity. The message reflected themes traditionally associated with the DMK’s emphasis on social justice, inclusiveness and equal opportunities.

Stalin’s Independence Day message came as celebrations were held across the country to mark the 80th anniversary of India’s Independence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the National Flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi and addressed the nation, outlining the government’s priorities and vision for the country’s development. Across Tamil Nadu, ceremonial events, cultural programmes and parades were organised as government institutions, educational establishments and members of the public participated in the celebrations.

Political leaders from across the country also extended greetings and paid tribute to freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives during India’s struggle against British colonial rule. In Tamil Nadu, the state’s Independence Day celebrations included the unfurling of the Tricolour at Fort St George in Chennai and an address by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The occasion was marked by patriotic events across the state.

Stalin concluded his message by wishing people a happy Independence Day and urging citizens to draw inspiration from the freedom movement. He called for collective efforts to create a progressive, compassionate and inclusive India for future generations, with equality, fraternity, pluralism and humanity remaining central to the country's journey.
