Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar addressed speculation over the state’s leadership tussle in a candid interaction with NDTV, saying he remains confident that the party high command will take the right call. The remarks come amid recurring buzz about a possible change in leadership in the Congress-ruled state. Shivakumar stressed that decisions rest with the party leadership. He also urged focus on Bengaluru’s growth instead of political speculation. The deputy chief minister said the media was fuelling unnecessary rumours.
Responding to questions about chief ministership, Shivakumar said he was not tired of queries and maintained faith in the party’s decision-making process. He added that any announcement would be made at an appropriate time by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Shivakumar emphasised that his focus remains on governance and development. He said Bengaluru’s progress is critical because the world looks at India through the city. The Congress leader reiterated that unity within the party is important.
On the Assam elections, Shivakumar — who is also the Congress in-charge for the state — expressed confidence that party leaders would not defect to the BJP. His comments came after former Assam Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah met Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of formally joining the BJP. Shivakumar claimed there is strong anti-incumbency against the ruling party in Assam. He said ground feedback suggests voters are seeking change. The Congress, he added, remains optimistic about its prospects.

Addressing the ongoing garbage disposal row in Bengaluru, Shivakumar accused BJP MLAs of attempting to pressure the government by blocking waste trucks. He said the government would not be “blackmailed” over what he described as a Rs 300–400 crore issue. The deputy chief minister, who also handles the Bengaluru Development portfolio, stressed the need for civic discipline. He urged citizens to follow traffic rules, avoid littering, and pay taxes. Strict enforcement of rules, he said, is essential for sustainable urban improvement.
Shivakumar concluded by highlighting his commitment to improving infrastructure and living standards in Bengaluru. He said cooperation from citizens is crucial to transform the city. The Congress leader also indicated that elections to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) are likely within the next three to four months. He reiterated that the government would remain firm in implementing reforms. According to Shivakumar, disciplined governance is the only path to long-term change.
