The Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps hosted a civil-military engagement seminar titled “Sonitpur SAMVAD” in Tezpur on Tuesday, aiming to strengthen cooperation between defence forces, civil administration, and local institutions. The initiative focused on enhancing coordination for nation-building efforts and promoting a shared development vision aligned with broader national objectives. The event brought together senior military officers, government officials, academics, and representatives from various public institutions.
The seminar was organised under the framework of civil-military fusion, with officials highlighting the importance of collective action under the guiding principles of “Samanvay, Aatmanirbharta, Mansik Dridhta, Vishwas aur Vikas,” collectively forming the acronym SAMVAD. These principles were presented as a roadmap for improving coordination, self-reliance, mental resilience, trust-building, and development-oriented governance in alignment with the long-term vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047.”
Addressing the gathering, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Gajraj Corps emphasised the importance of jointness, innovation, and self-reliance as key pillars for strengthening national security and development. He stressed the need for structured coordination between civil and military institutions, as well as the timely execution of development initiatives aimed at improving regional resilience and administrative efficiency in sensitive border areas.

A key outcome of the seminar was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH) and Army hospitals under the Gajraj Corps. The collaboration aims to enhance mental healthcare support through clinical assistance, training programmes, research initiatives, and outreach activities, focusing on both military personnel and civilian populations in the region.
The event witnessed participation from senior officials of the Assam state administration, including representatives from law enforcement, forest services, and educational institutions such as Tezpur University. Officials from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), police administration, local governance bodies, and the medical fraternity were also present, reflecting a broad-based institutional engagement in the initiative.
In a parallel development reinforcing the theme of civil-military engagement and wellness, the Assam Rifles organised fitness and community outreach activities under the national “Fit India Movement” in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district. The programme included yoga sessions and fitness exercises involving both troops and civilians, aimed at promoting physical well-being, community participation, and stronger ties between security forces and local populations.
