Speculation is growing in Tamil Nadu’s political circles that former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai may be preparing to launch a new political party, although no official confirmation has been made by him or the party. The rumours gained fresh momentum after the recent election cycle, with social media platforms witnessing a surge of posts from his supporters.
On X, several users have floated possible party names, symbols, and flag designs, further amplifying speculation that a formal announcement could follow in the coming weeks. Some online posts have even suggested that a new party declaration could come as early as June, though these claims remain unverified. The discussion has also been fuelled by Annamalai’s recent public positions and online activity.
He recently criticised the Central Board of Secondary Education decision to implement the three-language policy for Class 9 students. Observers have also noted that he did not post about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s weekly “Mann Ki Baat” broadcast on Sunday, interpreting it as a potential signal of distancing, though no evidence supports such conclusions.

Political chatter has also been shaped by his reported discomfort over the Bharatiya Janata Party decision to revive its alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. While he was initially seen as critical of the alliance shift, he later aligned with the party leadership and actively campaigned for the National Democratic Alliance during the election period.
A former Indian Police Service officer, Annamalai emerged as a prominent political figure after joining the BJP and was appointed Tamil Nadu BJP president in July 2021 at the age of 37, making him one of the youngest state leaders in the party. He continued in the role until 2025, when leadership changes followed the BJP’s renewed alliance strategy in the state.
However, senior BJP leaders have dismissed the speculation, stating that there is no information suggesting he is planning to leave the party or form a new outfit. Party sources maintain that he is likely to be assigned a national-level role in the near future, and insist that the current rumours are based largely on social media conjecture rather than internal developments.
