Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Monday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure decisive victories in the upcoming bypolls for the Davanagere South and Bagalkot Assembly constituencies. Speaking to the media, Yediyurappa appealed to voters to support the BJP and “teach the Congress a fitting lesson,” citing widespread dissatisfaction with the state government’s governance.
Yediyurappa criticised the Congress-led administration, claiming that its overwhelming majority has led to complacency and mismanagement. He urged the Muslim community to consider the performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government and extend their support to the BJP, stating that the electorate has recognised what he described as Congress’ betrayal.
The former Chief Minister’s son and State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra reinforced these allegations, describing the Congress government as “shameless” and unconcerned with state development. Speaking at a roadshow ahead of BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath’s nomination filing in Bagalkot, Vijayendra highlighted alleged neglect of the district under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s tenure, contrasting it with development during previous administrations led by Yediyurappa, Jagadish Shettar, and Basavaraj Bommai.

Vijayendra further criticised the Congress government for its handling of cultural and religious events, alleging restrictions on Hindu festivals such as Shivaji Jayanti processions, and accused it of financial mismanagement, including the misallocation of funds meant for Dalit welfare. He called for voters to reject these practices and emphasised that the BJP remains united, free of internal divisions, and focused on development.
Both leaders expressed optimism about the BJP’s prospects, asserting that public sentiment is strongly in their favour. Yediyurappa noted that their candidates had already filed nominations and predicted significant margins of victory in both constituencies.
With the bypolls approaching, the BJP is intensifying its campaign efforts in Karnataka, positioning itself as a force capable of challenging Congress’ longstanding dominance in the state and appealing to voters across communities. The party aims to consolidate support and deliver a message of accountability and governance ahead of the electoral contest.
