The DMK-led alliance has formally requested the Election Commission of India to defer the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu, citing monsoon disruptions, upcoming festivals, and risks of erroneous deletions. Allies Congress, CPM, CPI, and VCK supported the postponement during a multi-party consultation chaired by Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik. In contrast, AIADMK and BJP endorsed the exercise as essential for eliminating duplicates and deceased entries.
DMK organisation secretary R S Bharathi criticized the timing as suspiciously hasty, overlapping with heavy northeast monsoon rains, Christmas, and Pongal travel periods when households may appear vacant. He alleged potential replication of Bihar's controversial revision and urged the ECI to respect stakeholder concerns without opposing purification efforts in principle. The party's submission highlighted practical challenges in preventing eligible voter exclusions while blocking ineligible additions.
AIADMK leaders D Jayakumar and I S Inbadurai presented evidence from spot checks in Chennai constituencies revealing hundreds of bogus and outdated names, referencing 40,000 invalid entries during the Erode East bypoll. They advocated extending deadlines for festive accommodations but maintained strong support for cleansing the rolls. BJP vice-president Karu Nagarajan emphasized public cooperation to curb fraudulent voting and ensure electoral accuracy.

Congress's K V Thangkabalu noted a related Supreme Court petition with a November 4 hearing, questioning the ECI's decision to commence SIR simultaneously. CPI representatives labeled the short timeline as evidence of ulterior motives aimed at distorting democracy. NTK's Senthil expressed alarm over enrolling migrant workers from Bihar and northern states, warning of demographic manipulation to influence Tamil Nadu's political landscape.
Representatives from CPM, DMDK, VCK, AAP, and BSP also attended, reflecting broad engagement. The polarized positions underscore tensions ahead of assembly polls, with the ECI balancing administrative imperatives against logistical and political objections in finalizing the revision schedule.
