Haldiram's first UK restaurant in London's Leicester Square has temporarily suspended operations just weeks after its high-profile opening attracted large crowds and widespread attention on social media. The outlet, which opened in June as the Indian snack and restaurant chain's flagship venture in the United Kingdom, has been closed since July 21 due to scheduled utility upgrade works. The announcement was confirmed through the official Instagram account of Haldiram's UK, which stated that the restaurant would reopen once the maintenance work is completed.

A notice displayed outside the restaurant informed customers that the temporary closure is the result of planned electrical and gas infrastructure upgrades. The management said the work is essential and apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers. It added that the reopening date would be announced as soon as the upgrades are completed and encouraged patrons to follow the restaurant's social media channels for further updates.

According to the information shared by the restaurant, the electrical work is being carried out by UK Power Networks (UKPN), the company responsible for electricity distribution across London and south-east England. The reference to UKPN indicates that the closure is linked to scheduled infrastructure improvements rather than any operational issue or safety concern within the restaurant itself. At the time of publication, no official reopening date has been announced.

The Leicester Square outlet marked a significant milestone for Haldiram's international expansion, introducing the brand's first full-service restaurant in the UK. Located at 19-20 Irving Street, the approximately 3,000-square-foot venue accommodates around 120 indoor diners along with 20 outdoor seats. Unlike the company's traditional quick-service format, the London restaurant offers a premium casual dining experience featuring popular Indian dishes such as chole bhature, pav bhaji, raj kachori, an extensive range of chaat and exclusive fusion desserts created specifically for the UK market.

The restaurant also includes a dedicated retail section where customers can purchase Haldiram's packaged sweets, snacks and other takeaway products. The launch generated significant interest among London's Indian community and food enthusiasts, with long queues forming outside the venue during its opening days. Images and videos of the crowds quickly went viral across social media platforms, highlighting the strong anticipation surrounding the brand's UK debut.

While the temporary closure has disappointed many customers who were eager to visit the newly opened outlet, there has been no indication that it will affect Haldiram's long-term plans in the UK. The company has reiterated that the shutdown is temporary and related solely to essential infrastructure upgrades.
