A grim discovery in northwest Delhi’s Rohini shocked residents after police found the body of a Delhi Jal Board officer, identified as 59-year-old Suresh Kumar Rathi, lying in a pool of blood with a stab wound on his neck. Rathi, who was also the father of a National Security Guard (NSG) Major, was found dead in his Sector-24 apartment, sparking a high-profile murder investigation. The victim’s son, Ankur Rathi, raised the alarm after repeated calls to his father went unanswered for two days.
According to officials, the Rathi family owns two houses in the same area, and Suresh occasionally visited the second flat, where he reportedly consumed alcohol in solitude. When he failed to return home, Ankur used a spare key to enter the locked flat and found his father’s lifeless body in the bathroom. He immediately alerted the police around 3:30 pm, reporting that his father appeared to have been murdered. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajeev Ranjan confirmed that a case of homicide had been registered.
During the initial investigation, police found liquor bottles on the living room table, along with Rathi’s mobile phone, wallet, and car keys in another room. Forensic experts and a crime team inspected the scene, which bore no signs of forced entry, suggesting that the victim may have known his attacker. The body has been sent to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Suresh’s daughter, Major Jyoti Rathi, told investigators that her father might have allowed the perpetrator inside willingly. “There was no sign of a break-in, and the house wasn’t ransacked. It seems he knew the assailant,” she said. Senior officers overseeing the case noted that while the motive remains unclear, certain valuables, including jewellery, appear to be missing, pointing to a possible robbery angle.
Teams from the Rohini police district have begun scanning CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the events leading up to the murder. The Crime Branch and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) have been roped in to assist in the inquiry. “All possibilities, including theft and personal enmity, are being investigated,” a senior official said. Multiple leads are being followed as Delhi Police intensifies efforts to track down the suspect behind the brutal killing.
