A married couple’s relationship ended in a fatal domestic tragedy in a rented home in the Heelalige village on the city’s outskirts, where a man allegedly killed his wife before dying by suicide, police said on Monday. The grim incident came to light after neighbours raised concern, and investigators found a self-recorded video and suicide note on the husband’s mobile phone.
The couple — 31-year-old Deepantha Sabara and 27-year-old Manjula Sabara, both originally from Odisha and employed at private firms in Bommasandra, Bengaluru — had moved into the rented house around three weeks ago, officials said. Preliminary inquiries suggest that a domestic quarrel earlier that night escalated into violence after the pair were unable to resolve their dispute.
Police at Surya Nagar Police Station said they were alerted when the woman’s body was discovered on a couch in the home. A local resident who checked on the couple after seeing no activity inside contacted the landlord, who then informed law enforcement. Officers noted that both bodies were decomposed, indicating the deaths occurred some time before they were found.

At the scene, authorities recovered a selfie-style video in which the husband is seen crying beside his wife’s body and a suicide note written in Odia. The note and video appear to indicate that he recorded the message before hanging himself in the house, police said. Investigators are continuing to examine all digital and forensic evidence to clarify the sequence of events leading up to the killings.
“Preliminary enquiries suggest this was a case of domestic dispute,” a senior police official told reporters, stressing that no definitive motive has yet been established, and a medicolegal investigation is underway. The bodies were handed over to family following post-mortem procedures.
Such incidents underscore ongoing concerns about domestic violence and interpersonal conflict, prompting police and community leaders to urge early intervention and support services to reduce the risk of similar tragedies. Authorities said they will provide additional details as investigations progress.
