The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sharply criticized the Congress on Saturday, accusing it of acting as a “Pakistan Working Committee” after Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi questioned the authenticity of the 2019 Balakot air strikes following the Pulwama terror attack.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that Congress leaders consistently “supply oxygen” to Pakistan, undermining India’s armed forces and national interests.
Speaking at a press conference, Patra highlighted a disconnect between the Congress Working Committee’s (CWC) resolution on Friday, which urged strong action against Pakistan for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians, and Channi’s remarks.

Channi, a former Punjab CM, claimed the Balakot strikes “were not seen” and demanded proof, saying, “If a bomb is dropped, wouldn’t we know?” He later backtracked, asserting Congress supports the government and needs no proof.
Patra dismissed Channi’s retraction, stating, “The oxygen given to Pakistan can’t be taken back.” He accused Congress leaders like Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, Maharashtra MLA Vijay Wadettiwar, and Robert Vadra of questioning the Pahalgam attack’s motives, alleging they weaken military morale.
Patra also cited Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s claims about Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan ties.
The BJP further criticized Congress for claiming credit for the caste census announcement, noting its inaction during decades in power. As tensions with Pakistan escalate, Patra warned that Congress’s “pro-Pakistan” stance risks aiding India’s adversaries, urging a unified national response.
