The Congress party unleashed a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his recent talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, branding his approach as "cowardly kowtowing" and a capitulation to the "so-called dragon." The opposition party’s sharp criticism centers on Modi’s alleged failure to confront China’s ties with Pakistan and his stance on terrorism during the discussions.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to X to question Modi’s remarks, where the PM described both India and China as victims of terrorism. "If this isn’t the elephant bowing before the dragon, what is?" Ramesh remarked, accusing Modi of flip-flopping on China’s "double standards" on terrorism. He further called Modi’s silence on the China-Pakistan "jugalbandi" during Operation Sindoor—an operation flagged by Indian Army officials—"anti-national."
"Modi’s self-proclaimed bold leadership has been exposed," Ramesh added, pointing to the PM’s June 19, 2020, statement giving China a "clean chit" and labeling August 31, 2025, as another "day of infamy" for India.

The Modi-Xi talks, held on Sunday, focused on boosting trade and investment to stabilize global commerce while addressing the India-China border dispute. Both leaders agreed to deepen ties, with Modi emphasizing the need to combat cross-border terrorism, a challenge affecting both nations, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. Misri noted that Modi prioritized the issue, seeking mutual support, and claimed China’s cooperation was evident during the SCO Summit.
However, Congress remains unconvinced, accusing Modi of undermining India’s interests. The party’s fierce rhetoric signals escalating political tensions as the nation debates the outcomes of the high-stakes talks.
