The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major push to secure victories in the upcoming Karnataka local body elections, with former Chief Minister and BJP Central Parliamentary Board member B.S. Yediyurappa emphasizing a concentrated effort on winning the maximum number of seats. Speaking at the party’s state office, Jagannath Bhavan, Yediyurappa highlighted the importance of grassroots organisation and proactive campaigning.
According to Yediyurappa, BJP leaders, including the state president and senior party functionaries, have already begun district-level meetings with key leaders to plan for the elections. He stated that discussions on local governance and strategy will be an integral part of these sessions, with a clear focus on showcasing the current state government’s alleged mismanagement to the electorate.
Addressing comparisons between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former CM D. Devaraj Urs, Yediyurappa noted that both leaders had different administrative styles. He claimed that in the present scenario, marked by corruption allegations, the public is unlikely to be impressed by conventions or publicity campaigns and that BJP is already seeing success in local elections across Karnataka.

Yediyurappa further underscored the party’s long-term objective of forming a BJP-led government with a substantial majority in future state elections. “Our workers are motivated and united. The coming days will witness BJP’s victories in local body polls across Karnataka,” he said, expressing confidence in the party’s strategy and grassroots mobilisation.
On the matter of alliances, Yediyurappa did not mention any partnership with the JD(S). JD(S) leaders, including former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, have declared that their party will contest the local body elections independently, sparking discontent among BJP leaders in districts like Mandya. They pointed out that the BJP had previously supported JD(S) candidates in the Lok Sabha elections, including relinquishing the Mandya seat to H.D. Kumaraswamy.
JD(S) leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the state and national level while maintaining independence for local elections. Deve Gowda clarified that discussions regarding seat-sharing would only occur for major elections like the Assembly or Lok Sabha polls, prioritising the strengthening of JD(S) at the grassroots level. This sets the stage for a fiercely contested local election season in Karnataka, with BJP aiming for decisive victories.
