With the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections on the horizon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has wrapped up an intensive two-day coordination marathon with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to devise a formidable campaign and organizational strategy. Held in Kolkata, the meetings, which commenced on Wednesday night and concluded late Thursday, underscored the BJP’s resolve to challenge the ruling Trinamool Congress with a unified and strategic front.
The deliberations were spearheaded by BJP National Organizational General Secretary B.L. Santosh, alongside State President Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, and other key figures from both the BJP’s central and state leadership. Senior RSS functionaries played a pivotal role, ensuring ideological and organizational alignment. According to party insiders, the discussions centered on strengthening the BJP’s grassroots network, expanding voter outreach, and addressing persistent challenges that have hindered growth since the party’s 2021 electoral setbacks.
Key agenda items included leveraging the RSS’s centenary celebrations, set for October 2, 2025, on Vijaya Dashami, to galvanize support and amplify the party’s cultural narrative. Politically sensitive topics, such as the proposed Special Investment Region (SIR) in Bengal, were also debated, with the potential to shape the BJP’s economic and governance messaging. “The focus was on fostering seamless coordination between the party and the Sangh to ensure synergy for the 2026 battle,” a senior BJP functionary stated, emphasizing the party’s determination to leave no stone unturned.

Despite the strategic clarity, internal factionalism posed a challenge, as the new state committee could not be finalized during the meetings. The central leadership urged state leaders to swiftly resolve their differences and establish a cohesive team under Bhattacharya’s leadership. Prominent names under consideration for key organizational roles include Ritesh Tiwari, Raju Banerjee, Sanjay Singh, Prabal Raha, Locket Chatterjee, and Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato. For the party’s frontal wings, Shashi Agnihotri and Rupa Ganguly, who led the BJP Mahila Morcha from 2015 to 2017, are contenders for the women’s wing leadership, while Tarunjyoti Tiwari and Suranjan Sarkar are potential picks for the youth wing.
Political analysts view these meetings as a critical step in the BJP’s quest to reverse its electoral fortunes in West Bengal, where it faced setbacks in 2021. “The collaboration with RSS signals the party’s intent to contest the 2026 polls with a united and disciplined approach,” a political observer noted. However, a senior state BJP leader, speaking anonymously, cautioned that unresolved internal conflicts could undermine the meticulously crafted blueprint. As the BJP gears up to challenge Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s dominance, the success of this RSS-backed strategy hinges on unity and execution in the months ahead.
