Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of planning to "steal votes with all its might" in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, urging the state's youth to remain vigilant at polling booths and safeguard the Constitution. Addressing a massive rally in Purnia as part of the Mahagathbandhan's campaign, Gandhi claimed the BJP had already manipulated results in Haryana and the previous Bihar polls through collusion with the Election Commission, warning that similar tactics would be deployed again.
Gandhi alleged that millions of voters, particularly those aligned with the opposition Mahagathbandhan, had been systematically removed from electoral rolls during the recent special intensive revision. He referenced the Haryana controversy, where he previously claimed 25 lakh fake entries favoured the BJP, and extended the charge to Bihar, stating, "We have shown the world how the BJP and Election Commission stole Haryana. They will try the same here—it's the youth's responsibility to stop it." The remarks drew thunderous applause from the crowd, many waving Congress flags amid tight security.
Shifting focus to economic grievances, Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for boasting about cheap data enabling youth to earn from social media reels, calling it a "21st-century addiction" that benefits telecom giants rather than creating jobs. "How much money have youngsters pocketed from reels? Bihar needs employment, not distractions," he said, accusing Modi of fostering a "rule of billionaires" where the poor, Dalits, extremely backward classes, and minorities are sidelined while land is handed to corporates at throwaway prices.

At a subsequent rally in Araria, Gandhi targeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for aligning with the NDA, claiming the state is remotely controlled by Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah from Delhi, imposing a nationwide "jungle raj" of ED, CBI, and IT raids, hatred, and unemployment. He promised that an INDIA bloc government at the Centre—which he said was "not far away"—would establish the world's finest university in Bihar, revive Nalanda's glory, boost food processing and tourism circuits, and transform the state into a manufacturing hub with "Made in Bihar" labels on global products.
The fiery speeches come as Bihar heads to polls in three phases starting later this month, with the Congress-RJD-Left alliance positioning itself as the defender of social justice against the NDA's development narrative. Gandhi's allegations have sparked sharp rebuttals from BJP leaders, who dismissed them as desperation tactics, while election authorities maintained that voter list revisions followed standard procedures to eliminate duplicates and deceased entries. As campaigning intensifies in the Seemanchal region, the youth vote—over 40% of Bihar's electorate—emerges as the key battleground.
