In a sweeping political development, all 16 Gujarat state ministers, excluding Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, tendered their resignations on Thursday, October 16, 2025, paving the way for a significant cabinet reshuffle. The new cabinet is scheduled to take oath at 11:30 AM on Friday at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda expected to attend, underscoring the event’s prominence.
Chief Minister Patel is set to meet Governor Acharya Devvrat later tonight to formally submit the resignations, marking the culmination of a strategic overhaul within the Gujarat government. A senior BJP leader, as reported by PTI, indicated that the state may induct around 10 new ministers in the upcoming expansion, with nearly half of the current ministers likely to be replaced. Ministers such as Dharmendrasinh, Rishikesh Patel, Mukesh Patel, and Bhupendrasinh Chudasama are expected to retain their portfolios, while others, including Kanubhai Desai (Finance), Raghavji Patel (Agriculture), Kunvarji Bavaliya (Water Supply), and Murubhai Bera (Tourism), face potential replacement.
The reshuffle comes as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) efforts to rejuvenate its leadership in Gujarat, which has a 182-member assembly and allows for a maximum of 27 ministers, or 15% of the house’s strength. All BJP MLAs have been directed to convene in Gandhinagar by Thursday, signaling the party’s intent to ensure a unified front during this transition.
