Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar addressed controversy surrounding his recent criticisms of the Bharatiya Janata Party, asserting that media outlets had misrepresented his statements. He denied levelling allegations against the ruling alliance partner, emphasising that his original intent was to underscore the effective functioning of the state government under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pawar explained that selective portions of his speech were broadcast, distorting the overall message. He reiterated commitment to collaborative development efforts, stating that both central and state governments were actively contributing to Maharashtra's progress. The clarification follows reports of strained relations within the Mahayuti alliance, particularly after his faction of the Nationalist Congress Party allied with Sharad Pawar's group for the upcoming Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal elections.
Prior comments from Pawar had targeted BJP's governance in Pimpri-Chinchwad, accusing the party of financial mismanagement that reduced municipal corporation deposits significantly and fostering corruption through unchecked loans. He further highlighted deteriorating infrastructure, persistent traffic issues, narrowed roads, and the emergence of various mafia operations during the party's tenure in the civic body.

In response to criticism from Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol regarding NCP's selection of candidates with criminal backgrounds, Pawar defended the decision by referencing past unproven allegations against himself in a major irrigation scam. He questioned the practice of presuming guilt without judicial verification, noting his current position in power alongside those who previously accused him.
Pawar also held local BJP leadership accountable for delays in Pune's infrastructure projects, claiming that despite adequate funding from higher governments and a clear majority in the Pune Municipal Corporation, officials failed to utilise resources effectively or acquire necessary land, resulting in stalled civic development initiatives.
