Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati has granted her nephew Akash Anand “one more chance” to rejoin the party, hours after he issued a public apology for actions that led to his expulsion. The decision, announced on Sunday, follows a tumultuous period marked by Akash’s removal from party posts and a public feud involving his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth.
In a series of posts on X, Akash, previously named Mayawati’s political successor, expressed regret for a controversial tweet that prompted his ouster.
Calling Mayawati his “one and only political guru and role model,” he vowed not to let personal relationships, particularly with his in-laws, influence his party commitments. He sought forgiveness, promising to avoid political decisions driven by external advice.

Responding swiftly, Mayawati acknowledged Akash’s admission of mistakes and his pledge to prioritize the BSP over familial ties. She reinstated him, citing his public remorse and dedication to the Bahujan movement.
However, she firmly ruled out naming a successor while she remains healthy, emphasizing her lifelong commitment to the party, much like BSP founder Kanshiram. Mayawati also made it clear that Ashok Siddharth, accused of anti-party activities and ruining Akash’s career, will not be forgiven or welcomed back.
The saga began on March 2, when Mayawati removed Akash from all party roles, replacing him with his father, Anand Kumar, as national coordinator.
His subsequent expulsion on March 3 stemmed from what Mayawati called “selfish and arrogant” behavior. Akash’s reinstatement reflects the BSP’s internal dynamics, where party loyalty trumps personal ties, as Mayawati reiterated, “The party is supreme, and relations come later.”
