In a major security operation, the Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence unit in Faridkot, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), foiled a cross-border smuggling attempt along the international border in Fazilka district. Authorities recovered 2.1 kg of heroin and 21 sophisticated pistols along with a large cache of ammunition.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigations suggest that Pakistan-based smugglers crossed the zero line and operated close to the border fence. The smugglers attempted to exploit night-time conditions and dense fog to push arms and narcotics into Indian territory.
Alert BSF personnel detected the suspicious movement and fired warning rounds to prevent the breach. This was followed by a coordinated search operation by BSF and Punjab Police teams, leading to the recovery of the consignment from the border area.

The seized weapons included multiple foreign-made pistols such as Glock, Beretta, Zigana, Norinco, and MP-5-type firearms, along with over 300 cartridges and several magazines. Officials said the nature of the arms indicates a well-organized smuggling network with potential links to organised crime.
Assistant Inspector General Gursewak Singh Brar said the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. A special ambush was laid near Teja Ruhela village, where Pakistani smugglers attempted to push the consignment before being forced to retreat.
An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and Arms Act at Fazilka. Police said further investigations are underway to identify local collaborators and dismantle the entire smuggling network, reiterating their commitment to zero tolerance against cross-border crimes.
