Rajampet YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy was granted a five-day interim bail on Saturday by the ACB Court to participate in the vice-presidential election scheduled for September 9, 2025. The decision allows the embattled parliamentarian, arrested in connection with an alleged Rs 3,200-crore liquor scam, to exercise his democratic right before returning to custody.
Advocate T Nagarjuna Reddy, representing the MP, confirmed that the interim bail spans from September 6 to September 11. “The court granted bail to ensure Midhun Reddy can cast his vote in the vice-presidential election,” Nagarjuna Reddy told PTI. The bail was secured with two sureties of Rs 50,000 each, and the MP was required to deposit his passport with the court, a condition he has already fulfilled. Midhun Reddy must surrender to Rajahmundry Central Jail by 5 PM on September 11.
The MP’s arrest on July 19, 2025, stemmed from allegations of financial irregularities in Andhra Pradesh’s liquor trade during the previous YSRCP government’s tenure. The high-profile case has drawn significant attention, with the opposition alleging political vendetta by the ruling coalition. The interim bail underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding democratic participation, even for those under legal scrutiny.

This development comes as the vice-presidential election garners national focus, with key political alliances vying for influence. Midhun Reddy’s vote could play a pivotal role, given the YSRCP’s strategic position in the electoral landscape. As the MP prepares to cast his ballot, the case highlights the intersection of legal accountability and political responsibility, raising questions about the balance between justice and democratic rights.
