Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held his first-ever ‘Janata Darshan’ in Varanasi on Saturday at the Circuit House, engaging with citizens to address their grievances during a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency. The public hearing, a hallmark of Adityanath’s governance since 2017, saw him personally interact with dozens of residents, listening to issues ranging from land disputes and housing to medical aid and police matters. He directed officials to resolve these concerns promptly, emphasizing transparency and accountability.
BJP District co-media in-charge Arvind Mishra noted that applications from those unable to meet the Chief Minister were collected and forwarded to relevant authorities for swift action. “No injustice will be tolerated,” Adityanath reiterated, as per an official statement, instructing officials to prioritize sensitive and time-bound resolutions. The event, attended by local BJP leaders and officials, underscores Adityanath’s commitment to direct public engagement, a practice he has championed in Gorakhpur and Lucknow.
The Janata Darshan follows Adityanath’s recent Gorakhpur session on August 24, where he met over 200 people, assuring support for medical treatments and housing under government schemes. In Varanasi, a woman from Chandauli sought aid for her husband’s cancer treatment, prompting Adityanath to order immediate cost estimates for government assistance. Another resident raised concerns about illegal land encroachment, to which the Chief Minister vowed strict legal action. Social media posts praised the initiative, with locals highlighting Adityanath’s accessibility, though some criticized delays in resolving complex cases like revenue disputes.

Adityanath’s visit coincides with preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, where the BJP aims to secure a third term. Political analysts see the Janata Darshan as a strategic move to bolster his image as a people-centric leader amid recent electoral setbacks in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, where the BJP’s seats dropped to 33 from 62 in 2019. The event also aligns with Varanasi’s growing prominence, with Adityanath inaugurating development projects worth ₹1,200 crore on Friday, including upgrades to the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor and urban infrastructure, reinforcing the city’s role as a spiritual and economic hub.
