The Adani Ahmedabad Marathon has been added to the World Athletics Global Calendar ahead of its 10th edition, scheduled for November 29, 2026. The inclusion means performances recorded at the race will be eligible for consideration in World Athletics Rankings, giving the event a place within the international road-racing calendar and providing greater global recognition for runners competing in Ahmedabad.
World Athletics, the international governing body for athletics, maintains standards for competitions across its 214 Member Federations. Its Global Calendar serves as a worldwide reference for recognised athletics events. For the Ahmedabad Marathon, the listing reflects compliance with requirements covering areas such as course measurement and certification, race operations, medical arrangements, timing and results, elite athlete management, and applicable athletics and anti-doping regulations.
The recognition marks a significant milestone for an event that has expanded considerably since its early editions. The marathon began with a few thousand participants and has grown into a major city-wide sporting occasion, with more than 24,000 runners taking part in the previous edition. Runners, volunteers, families and Armed Forces personnel participate in the event, turning the race into a prominent annual sporting gathering across Ahmedabad.

The marathon has also developed a strong association with its #Run4OurSoldiers initiative, which has been part of the event's journey for a decade. The initiative brings civilians and members of the Armed Forces together to recognise the service and sacrifice of Indian soldiers. Organisers have positioned the programme as an important part of the marathon's identity, extending its significance beyond competitive running.
The latest recognition comes as Ahmedabad prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and continues to develop its sporting infrastructure and culture. The inclusion of the city's flagship marathon on the World Athletics Global Calendar adds another international dimension to its sporting profile. It also provides an opportunity for local and visiting athletes to compete at a recognised event while having their performances considered within the global rankings system.
Sanjay Adesara, Chief Business Officer of Adani Sportsline, described the World Athletics listing as a significant achievement for everyone involved with the marathon. He credited runners, volunteers and Armed Forces personnel while pointing to the event's course certification, safety arrangements, timing systems and elite athlete management. As the marathon enters its 10th edition, organisers said they remain focused on maintaining the standards associated with its new international recognition.
