Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, honored seven inspiring women at an all-women bike rally organized by Navbharat Times on Sunday. The event, which kicked off from Connaught Place at 11 a.m., celebrated women’s empowerment, with Gupta lauding the bikers as symbols of strength. “You have proved wrong those who say women cannot do certain things,” she said, emphasizing that women should not live in fear. “Victory lies beyond fear,” she added, referencing the rally’s annual tradition since 2013, born in the wake of a major tragedy in Delhi.
The honored women included Humaira Mushtaq, Jammu and Kashmir’s first international car racer; Arjuna awardee wrestler Divya Kakran; domestic violence survivor Sweety Mehta, who founded NGOs for women; drug rehabilitation advocate Rekha Jindal; computer educator for slum dwellers Nalini Asthana; para-athlete Kanchan Lakhani; and social worker Neetu Chaudhary. Their stories underscored the rally’s message of resilience and achievement.
Gupta, reflecting on her own past, shared a personal note: “I used to ride a Kinetic scooter during my university years.” She linked the event to broader progress, urging women to break barriers. LG Saxena echoed her sentiments, calling the rally a “display of women’s courage.” He highlighted their strides in India, noting, “In some areas, they are surpassing men.” Citing the recent Delhi assembly elections, he pointed out that female voter turnout exceeded men’s, signaling their growing influence.
Held annually, the rally has become a powerful platform to challenge stereotypes and inspire change. As bikes roared through the capital, Gupta and Saxena’s words reinforced a vision of a fearless future for Delhi’s women, driven by recognition and empowerment.
