A chilling discovery has rocked the quiet town of Oonnukal in Ernakulam district, where the partially decomposed body of an unidentified woman was found in a waste pit at an unoccupied house. Police suspect foul play, with early indications pointing to a brutal murder, and have launched a high-priority investigation to uncover the truth.
The grim find came to light on Friday when the property’s owner, a Christian priest from Kuruppampady, noticed a foul odor emanating from the waste pit. Earlier in the week, he had reported a break-in at the house after discovering the kitchen’s exit door forced open, prompting a case registration at Oonnukal police station. Upon returning to the property, the priest alerted authorities to the stench, leading to the recovery of the body.
Police suspect the deceased may be a 61-year-old woman from Vengoor, reported missing days earlier. “The body is heavily decomposed, making identification challenging,” a senior officer stated. “We’re awaiting postmortem results to confirm her identity and cause of death.” Bloodstains found inside the house and near the pit have strengthened suspicions of murder.

The body has been sent to Ernakulam Government Medical College, Kalamassery, for a postmortem scheduled for Saturday. Meanwhile, police have detained a woman from a rented house in Neriamangalam for questioning, though her involvement remains under investigation.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents demanding answers. Authorities are combing through evidence, including forensic samples, to piece together the events leading to this horrific crime and bring the perpetrator to justice.
