Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, asserting that any threat to India or its citizens would be met with “strength and clarity.” His remarks came as the nation marked one year since the deadly attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians.
In a message shared on X, Singh remembered the victims and expressed solidarity with their families. “We share the enduring pain of their loved ones and families. We will never forget those wounds inflicted on our nation,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to standing firmly against terrorism.
The attack, which took place on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, was one of the most brutal assaults on civilians in recent years. Armed terrorists targeted tourists, reportedly identifying victims based on their religion before opening fire. Among those killed were 25 tourists and a local resident who attempted to protect them, highlighting the indiscriminate and violent nature of the assault.

The incident was attributed to The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. The attack drew widespread condemnation and renewed focus on the issue of cross-border terrorism, which India has faced for decades.
Responding to the tragedy, Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor in early May 2025. Officials described the operation as a calibrated and non-escalatory action targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, aimed at neutralizing threats while maintaining strategic restraint.
Singh подчеркнул that India’s response to terrorism has evolved into a firm and decisive approach, combining military and non-military measures. He reiterated that the country remains united in its resolve, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism and a continued commitment to safeguarding national security.
