Villagers in Hardauli village of Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district allegedly tied a telecom company's technician to a mobile tower after becoming frustrated over persistent network problems in the area. The incident took place on Thursday after the technician arrived in the village, where residents confronted him over what they said were long-standing connectivity issues.
According to police, villagers had been facing mobile network problems for a considerable period despite a telecom tower being installed in the area. Residents alleged that repeated complaints to the service provider had failed to resolve the issue. Their frustration escalated when the tower worker visited the village, leading the villagers to restrain him and tie him to the tower.
Villagers claimed they had been paying for prepaid 5G services but were still struggling to make calls or access the internet because of poor network connectivity. They reportedly told the technician that he would not be released until officials from the telecom company visited the village and addressed their complaints. The incident drew attention after footage from the village circulated on social media.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and freed the technician. Bindki police station in-charge Shailesh Singh said the preliminary investigation indicated that the villagers were angry over the prolonged mobile network problems. Singh said their frustration over the connectivity issue had led them to tie the tower worker to the mobile tower.
A case has been registered based on the technician's complaint, police said. Authorities are now examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and investigating the actions of those involved. Police are also looking into the footage circulating on social media as part of efforts to establish the sequence of events.
The incident has brought attention to the frustration that can arise when residents face prolonged connectivity problems despite the presence of mobile infrastructure in their area. While villagers cited poor network service as the reason for their protest, police action following the technician's complaint is now part of the investigation into the incident.
