Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor-turned-politician Vijay will participate in a special Iftar gathering this evening in Mamallapuram as part of Ramzan observances, the party announced on Wednesday.
The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at a hotel in Mamallapuram and will host selected invitees from across Tamil Nadu. According to the TVK, the Iftar programme is organised in Vijay’s capacity as party president and aims to strengthen solidarity and outreach with the Muslim community during the sacred month of fasting and prayer.
The organisers clarified that the gathering will be strictly indoors and conducted with prior permission from the Election Commission, in compliance with the ongoing election period and the Model Code of Conduct. Participation has been capped at 1,000 guests, with entry restricted to those holding official invitations. “Only invited guests will be permitted to attend the event. No on-the-spot entry will be allowed under any circumstances,” the party statement said.

Supporters and the general public have been advised not to gather outside the venue, and arrangements have been made for live television coverage to ensure broader access. TVK leaders also urged attendees to cooperate fully with guidelines to maintain order and safety throughout the event.
The Iftar gathering is being closely watched as part of Vijay’s broader political outreach in Tamil Nadu ahead of the Assembly elections. Observers note that the event is likely to combine religious observance with subtle political messaging, reflecting the strategies of parties across the state as they engage with diverse communities in the run-up to the polls.
