Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan will begin a two-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Saturday, during which he will participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyaan’ and attend several events highlighting India’s freedom movement and national heritage. The visit will include tributes at historic sites associated with the country’s struggle for independence.
On the first day of his visit, the Vice President will visit the Cellular Jail National Memorial in Sri Vijay Puram. He will pay homage at the Martyrs’ Column, offer respects at the Swatantrata Jyoti and visit the cell where freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was imprisoned. The visit is aimed at honouring the sacrifices of freedom fighters who were held at the historic jail.
Radhakrishnan will also attend a light and sound show at the Cellular Jail, which depicts the journey of India’s freedom movement and highlights the struggles and contributions of national heroes. The event will showcase the historical significance of the memorial and its role in preserving the memory of India’s independence struggle.

On August 9, the Vice President will participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyaan’ by hoisting the National Flag at Flag Point in Sri Vijay Puram. He will later attend the state function, ‘Tiranga Concert on Vande Mataram’, at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) Auditorium.
During the afternoon, the Vice President is scheduled to visit the historic Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, a site associated with India’s freedom movement. The visit forms part of his engagements in the Union Territory to commemorate national pride and historical contributions.
Last month, Radhakrishnan unveiled the statue of social reformer and freedom fighter Mannathu Padmanabhan and inaugurated the Mannam Smrithi Mandapam at the Mannam International Centre in Delhi. During the event, he highlighted Padmanabhan’s contributions to education, social reform, self-reliance and community service, describing his legacy as an example of inclusive social progress.
