Severe flooding has inundated 402 villages across 37 tehsils in Uttar Pradesh, impacting 84,392 people, according to a statement from Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami. The crisis, affecting 17 districts including Kanpur Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Agra, and Varanasi, has prompted extensive relief and rescue operations led by the National Disaster Relief Force, State Disaster Relief Force, and Provincial Armed Constabulary, with continuous patrolling to ensure safety.
The floods have damaged 343 homes, with 327 families already receiving compensation. Over 4,015 hectares of agricultural land have been submerged, exacerbating the crisis. Relief efforts include the distribution of 6,536 food packets and 76,632 lunch packets, supported by 29 community kitchens providing fresh meals. Additionally, 493 boats and motorboats are being used to deliver supplies to stranded residents.
To accommodate displaced individuals, 905 flood shelters are operational, housing 11,248 people. Medical support is being provided by 757 health teams conducting check-ups, while 1,193 flood posts monitor the situation. With 47,906 people already assisted, authorities are working tirelessly to mitigate the impact of the floods and support affected communities across the state.
