In a compelling address during the Lok Sabha’s Zero Hour on Wednesday, Congress general secretary and Wayanad Member of Parliament Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged the Central government to implement a comprehensive loan waiver for the victims of the devastating floods and landslides that struck her parliamentary constituency in Kerala. The natural disaster, which caused widespread destruction, claimed hundreds of lives, obliterated 17 entire families, and destroyed over 1,600 homes and buildings, leaving thousands in distress.

Vadra expressed deep concern over what she described as a significant shortfall in central assistance for the affected communities, emphasizing that the lack of adequate support has severely hampered efforts to rebuild lives and livelihoods in Wayanad. “The scale of this tragedy demands immediate and robust action from the Centre to provide financial relief and rehabilitation,” she stated, pressing for the waiver of loans to alleviate the economic burden on survivors who have lost their homes, businesses, and sources of income.

The Congress leader underscored the urgency of addressing the crisis, noting that the absence of sufficient aid has left many families in a state of despair, struggling to recover from the catastrophic loss.
